The Synopsis

Vidya, a gynecologist, carries her pregnancy and gives birth to a boy Auro (Amitabh Bachan) who is suffering from progeria. The 12 year old Auro goes to school and lives with his mother and grand mother (Arundhati Naag). He has a buddy (Pratik) in the school. He happens to meet Amol. A series of events bring the family together and Auro bonds with his father.
The Performances
For the first time we do not see Amitabh Bachchan on the screen but comes out as just Auro, speaking an adolescent tongue with a nasal twang andmoving in an awkward shuffle. This is an Oscar award winning role that Big B played to perfection. Abhishek Bachchan is no less inferior. He essayed his role with aplomb and effortless ease.
Vidya Balan is the surprise element. She is simply superb as a caring mother and as a traumatized wife who has been left alone by a politician husband. The roles of Arundhati Naag and Paresh Rawal are credible and they perform effectively. Pratik is truly talented. Jaya
Bachchan in her cameo is pleasing. All others are adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
At last, Balki comes along with a refreshing story of relationships. The great point in the story is that not even once Auro, suffering with progeria, has been discriminated. His role has been dealt with normally and maturely. The screenplay and dialogues are good. In spite of political sub plots, Auro carries the narration in the most sensible and sensitive manner.
Cinematography by PC Sriram is of world standard. Music by Ilayaraja is pleasing and soothing. Make up of Amitabh Bachchan as Auro by Hollywood technicians Christien Tinsley and Domini Till is simply amazing.
Analysis
The film belongs to a completely different genre but the thing that makes it better is the humor and the deeper meaning of relationships in this materialistic world. While the first half comes out with flying colors and the second half gets drifted due to the political aspect and the rivalry. Overall, the film strikes a chord with the audience and this is more of an emotional treat that is mixed with right elements of humor, understanding and sensibility. The credit for that goes to the technical values and a masterly writing. This should go well with all audiences.
