The success of Ready has earned him enough spotlight in Tollywood, but the 20-year old actor admittedly feels stardom is scary. However, if you think that's an amateur head on his shoulders talking, Ram surprises you with his mature approach to cinema. "I wanted to be a good actor, not necessarily a hit hero." He was 13 when he acted in a short film, playing the role of a 20-something drunkard. The role had won him an award at the European Film Festival. Ram made his entry into Tollywood with the hit movie Devdas in 2005 starring opposite Ileana which was her first film too. He says about the actress, "Before the film starts, we worked together in acting school for a few months. I am happy that now she has become one of the top actresses."
Did he ever feel being at a disadvantage in Tollywood, where most actors come from a film background? He says not having a background meant not having a pre-set image as well, "Even now, I don't want to form an image and be stereotype. That's why I want to do films with variations of characters not to stick to one type of role." He explains that as the reason for experimenting with Jagadam. "Though the film didn't click commercially, there were many positives in it for me. I even got rave reviews for the role," he says. Even now, Ram promises not to be afraid of doing different roles. "After 3-4 good commercial hits, you can enact such roles. Ten years from now, I want to look back and know that I worked in a masterpiece," he reasons.
