Adhurs in Jan second week

NTR-starrer Adhurs is finally releasing in the second week of January. The VV Vinayak directorial was slated for a Christmas release, but it is finally for Sankranthi that it is hitting the marquee. The third film in the combination of VV and NTR is hugely awaited by the fans of the star throughout the state.

An official announcement was made regarding the release date by the producers yesterday. Producer Vallabhaneni Vamsimohan said that he was happy to do a good film like Adurs under his banner. He is sure that the film will turn out to be a big hit for the season.

The Junior, who is playing dual role in the film, has Nayanatara and Sheela paired with him. Of course, Brahmanandam's comedy will be another asset as the director recently claimed.
Meanwhile, Aditya Music's Umesh Guptha said that Adurs' audio was receiving repeat orders from many places. This means the Devi Sri musical is creating wonders in the market, as every body of us expected.

There are at least four famous character artistes doing important roles in the film. Mahesh Manjrekar, Sayaji Shinde, Nasser and Asish Vidhyarthi. Apart from the ensemble cast, the film's technical talent boasts of award-winning technicians like Chota K Naidu, Anand Sai and Raju Sundaram.

Tabu’s Rasa Leelai in Chennai

Tabu, who made her debut in Tamil with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar later, appeared in only one more Tamil film, Rajiv Menon’s Kandu Kondain Kandu Kondain. After which the actress shifted her interests to Hindi and Telugu movies. Now, this tall and dusky beauty is back in Kollywood with the dubbed version of the Hindi film Hawa which released a few years ago.

Titled Rasa Leelai in Tamil, this movie by Hamsa Lingam reportedly features some steamy scenes with Tabu. The original version written by Sutanu Gupta and directed by Guddu Dhanoa was said to be inspired by Sidney Fune’s The Entity. According to sources, Rasa Leelai will hit eight screens in the city on January 1.

Biggies get ready for January 2010 war

Come January, a raft of big and small movies will slug fest for box office share at the box office. With at least four December releases getting postponed owing to the unfriendly situation for films in the state, these are joining in the Jan war too. Thus, you have Nagarjuna's 'Kedi', NTR's 'Adhurs', Venkatesh's 'Namo Venkatesha', Ravi Teja's 'Shambo Shiva Shambo' and Shekar Kammula-directed Leader coming as the month's biggest releases. These films have high stakes and are brandished as prestigious projects.

Of the five, 'Adhurs' and 'Leader' were not scheduled for a Pongal release, while 'Kedi' and 'Namo Venkatesha' have always been the contenders for the festive season. Now, the fight has got more exciting. It is difficult to fathom the enormity of the situation in next month, with no parallel in the past. Though there has been no official declaration about Leader's release date as yet, it may be presumed that the producers will not allow it to languish more than a month in the studio.

Apart from these much-awaited ones, there are films like Deva Katta's 'Prasthanam', Three Angels-produced 'Om Shanthi', Manchu Manoj-starrer Bindaas, Nikhil-starrer Kalavar King, Geetha Krishna-directed Koffi Bar, dubbed film Yuganiki Okkadu in the fray, though not necessarily in mid-Jan.

Will 'Adhurs' launch talented Sheela's phase?

It is difficult to understand why some actresses do not succeed in striking the right chord with the audience, every time they fail to strike gold at the box office. Do they always need a hit in their account for their talent to get the much-deserved recognition?

Although actress Sheela did her best in films like 'Parugu', the damsel could not perch herself in the front line. It is only easy to reason that she was the right actress in wrong films. Though 'Parugu' was an Allu Arjun film, the expressive actress could not hog the limelight, largely owing to the film's dull run at the BO. Of course, 'Maska' was a huge let down, because her talent was not sufficiently tapped here.

In her next film 'Adhurs', the actress is paired opposite NTR, but she is one of the heroines only (the other one being Nayanatara). This means nothing, though we pray that she is not playing second fiddle and her talent is not wasted by VV.

Seems that some heroines are pretty lucky to be patronised by top heroes. Though the trend is more typical of the Hindi film industry, Tollywood is no stranger to it. and she later opted for Bollywood.

Of course, it is also true that the professional actress well deserved the film. Nagarjuna himself praised the actress for displaying professionalism on the sets.

The gossip mills churn the rumour that Priyamani is being promoted by Jagapathi Babu. What could have made them to come to the conclusion? Well, the actress has acted in three movies with the middle-aged actress. 'Pellaina Kothalo', 'Pravarakhyudu' and now, 'Sadhyam'.

She said that she is willing to do anything to work with Gulzarsaab. Jr NTR,yet another target

On Saturday, slogans were raised by some members who identified themselves as belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi against actor Junior NTR, who was shooting at a college in the Old City. Though there was no destruction to property, angry slogans were raised against the actor.

NTR is viewed as belonging to the TDP camp. Moreover, as he is the son of Hari Krishna, who openly declared that the TD is committed to United Andhra, T-supporters have targeted his film 'Adhurs' and successfully stopped it from releasing on the eve of Christmas.

The actor was shooting for a fight sequence at a women's college for his film Brindavanam, along with director Vamsi Paidipalli. Producer Dil Raju, actor Supreeth were also present there.
There was no loss to the makes in terms of destruction of property, because they had police bandobast well in advance.

Around two dozen protestors went away after making pro-Telangana and anti-NTR slogans.
Except for a brief period when the shooting had to be cancelled, it resumed later.

Arya2, set to collect Rs. 30 cr

Despite facing heavy blockades in business in the Nizam area, Allu Arjun-starrer 'Arya-2' is all set to reap collections of Rs. 30 cr. in the coming days. The producers of the movie have told us that their film suffered a severe blow in the strongholds of the stylish star ever since shows have been cancelled in the area following the announcement of fasting by K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Yet the film collected Rs. 6.5 cr. in the area. In Ceded, which was bandh-battered for many days, the film grossed over Rs. 4 cr. with the Vizag area alone collecting Rs. 1.60 cr. Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari and East Godavari contributed between Rs. 1.08-1.27 cr. If the Karnataka market grossed Rs. 1.90 cr., Chennai and North India have contributed nearly half a
crore.

However, owing to the suspension of screenings and bandhs, the film lost an estimated Rs. 6-8 cr. in the state. In this scenario, it is overseas collections, along with audio rights and Kerala release that saved the day for the film. Arya2's reported earnings from them is put at Rs. 7 cr.!

Christmas, New Year and Pongal seasons are touted to be coming as boon for it. Already, the theatrical collections are put at Rs. 21 cr. and further running is said to rake in Rs. 3 cr. With this, Arya2 will have been the biggest grosser for the year after 'Magadheera' and 'Arundhati'.

Varun Sandesh Prema Charitra
