Quantum of Solacemovie review
The Film

Quantum of Solace has a quantum of high-speed action and breathless chases but no solace to the faithful James Bond fans. This Bond is like any other vengeance seeker minus the usually sauve I am Bond, James Bond that we know who drinks Martinies, shaken and not stirred. Even the signature tune of Bond films is missing.
The Synopsis

Bond (Daniel Craig) chases a villain who may know who killed his girlfriend Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale.

There is this mysterious Quantum organisation, headed by the ruthless Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) who has plans to take complete control of the world’s vital resources. Bond meets Camille (Olga Kurylenko) who also has an axe to grind against the Bolivian General.
Bond breaks all rules to avenge Vesper’s death in a journey which takes him from Italy to Austria, Britain, Haiti and Bolivia. Meanwhile, his boss M (Judi Dench) sends Agent Fields (Gemma Arterton) to bring the rogue 007 back home.

The Performance

Daniel Craig gives a good performance as an action man with a mission. Mathieu Amalric as Greene is quite competent. Olga Kurylenko is convincing. Being a predominantly action oriented, the lead actors have only a grim obsessive expression.

The Techniques

This is technically well produced film. Director Marc Forster concentrated more on action than on drama or nicities. The cinematography is breathtaking and the editing is crisp. Second unit director Dan Bradley and stunt coordinator Gary Powell have given some racy adge-of-the-seat action sequences. Audiography and background music are good.

The Verdict

Quantum of Solace is for action lovers. Those who missed Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale may miss the Vesper Lynd connection. However, those who are in love with Ian Fleming’s Bond played by Sean Connery may be disappointed.
A single point mission of vengeance to avenge a personal loss is not what the audience expect from James Bond.
The Rating
2.5 out of 5
