Nagarjuna’s green signal to go green

After weeks of persistent work with the Green Again campaign, The forest department officials agreed to the transplantation of trees to safeguard the city's green. Nagarjuna called us to express his happiness. Nag sounded pleased as punch on the other end of the line as he said, "It was very nice to read about the decision. It's a fantastic thing to have happened." Nag has transplanted a 25-feet royal palm and a neem tree to his garden. He has helped friends build their gardens with translocated trees. When we told him that the authorities are planning to transplant 100-year old banyan trees, he said optimistically, "I wish them all the luck."
Nag also tells that the role played by the media has been important, and that there's more that needs to be done in terms of educating people. "People need to be educated about issues like global warming, and about what can happen to the environment 5 or 10 years from now." The man fully aware of the environmental threat we face says, "There's a need to put fear in people's minds. This is exactly like making people aware of AIDS before they became conscious. India is more than just cities, so we have to talk about saving the greens all over, even in the smallest of places."
