Tollywood ready for Multi-Starrers?

Be it Mahesh Babu who agreed to turn ‘narrator’ for Pawan Kalyan’s Jalsa, or hotshot NTR dancing for a brief moment with Venkatesh in Chintakayala Ravi, looks like the new generation stars are beginning to put their egos aside to usher in a friendly and progressive trend.

That reminds us of the golden era of yesteryear actors like NTR, Krishna, ANR and Sobhan Babu, who shared screen space quite often, besides retaining their respective stardoms. However, the subsequent generation — Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Venkatesh and Nagarjuna –– surprisingly didn’t act together in a single film. A couple of years ago, noted filmmaker K Raghavendra Rao ambitiously announced a film with few of these stars but later shelved it, for reasons best known to him.

"Multi-starrers will augur well for the industry since we can come up with more innovative scripts," says a star filmmaker. If a big maker is all set to take up the challenge, then stars could give the option a serious thought to entertain audience on a much bigger scale. "Hindi films came out of the rut only due to multi-starrers and bold themes and now they are on a song," informs a big producer.

Even as the young fans of both the stars love watching multi-starrers, they still have reservations about big combinations. "I am not against multi-starrres per se but NTR should have played a bigger role," reveals Sanjay, fan of Nandamuri clan, who was disappointed with his favourite actor’s blink-and-miss appearance in Chintakayala Ravi. Likewise, Bobby, a Mahesh Babu fan, says "I love to watch Mahesh with other stars. That way, I can watch him in two films every year, instead of one now." Trust the new age stars are thinking different, unlike their immediate predecessors. - (TNN)
