Having acted in action, romantic, fantasy-adventure and comedy genre films, Karthi took up the challenge of turning a politician in political-thriller Saguni. After the success of Siruthai, the young actor went on
to read quite a few scripts before zeroing in on the script written by debutant director N Shankar Dayal.
The movie bosses announced the project in April 2011 and the pre-production works begun in May last week. After considering a few actresses, it was decided that Pranitha would play the female lead in
Saguni. It was also noted that several names like Tamanna Bhatia, Kajal Aggarwal and Anushka Shetty, who has done cameo in the film, were floated. When it comes to other cast, Roja and Raadhika Sarathkumar, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Prakash Raj, who replaced Salim Ghouse, Mumtaj were roped in.
However, the shooting of the film was delayed after Karthi took a break following his marriage. The regular filming was kick-started in the later part of the year.
The story of Saguni is about an ordinary man taking a plunge into politics in order to clean the system. Karthi's character has the shades of Lord Krishna and Shakuni of the epic Mahabharata. He runs the
show with his intelligence and hatches a plan to eliminate the ruling party. The movie has a lot of twists and turns, which ends on a thrilling climax.
When it comes to music, GV Prakash has given four good songs out of which 'Kandha kaara...' and 'Manasellam mazhaiye...' topping the chart. And the film has PG Muthiah's cinematography and A Sreekar
Prasad's editing.
Saguni, which is releasing simultaneously in Telugu as Shakuni, is hitting the theatres worldwide in 1,150 screens tomorrow (June 22). While it is releasing in 400 plus theatres in Tamil Nadu, it will light the screens above 35 screens alone in Chennai.
