Cinematography: Vijay C Kumar
Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh
Music: Mickey J Mayor
Producers: M Saravanan and MS Guhan
Direction: Sekhar Kammula
Released On: 19th Feb 2010
The much awaited film of Sekhar Kammula has released today. The tall actor with promising looks, Rana, debuted with this. The expectations are indeed high and let us see how far things got in tune with those expectations.
Story:
Chief Minister Sanjeevayya (Suman) gets killed in a landmine blast. His son Arjun Prasad (Rana) descends as next CM but after a series of political games with his opponents and power greedy Dhanunjay (Subba Raju). Arjun’s paternal uncle (Kota) also moves against Arjun.
Arjun is idealistic in nature and wishes to change the rules of political system in the state. How far is he successful? What is the method he has chosen to make that change? How people react to that? Who helped him in his cause? How enemies try to put an end for him? All that forms the story.
Performances:
Rana deserves right encomiums for his portrayal. He has underplayed the role as per the requirement. His voice and diction are good. If he concentrates better on working out expressions, he will be a promising actor.
Richa Gangopadhyaya is like a sheer poetry in some scenes. The credit goes to costumes department and also cinematographer.riya Anand looks good but her role is not fitting into the narration.
Subba Raju, the antagonist, played histrionics very well and up to the mark. Harshavardhan is perfectly in tune in his role as protagonist’s yes-man. Rao Ramesh made his presence felt even with his small role. Kota Sreenivasa Rao is serious. Director would have used him better with some satirical and humorous dialogues, as audience expect in general. Udaya Bhanu arrested the eyes of audience with her item number. Others are ok.Cinematography is good. Music and RR are marvelous. It’s really the RR (Re-Recording) that brought emotional grip to narration.
Highlights:
Take off with landmine attack on CM
Udayabhanu’s glamour dose in item number
In first song, where Rana visits every slum and every corner to understand the society, is good. A scene where Rana leaves a cloth for a woman through water, reminds a bit from Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’.
Rana’s dialogue about his willingness to die after dealing with Rs 1 Lakh crore scheme brought claps in theaters.
Old man’s dialogue with Chief Minister about his daughter
Memorable Dialogues Those Attracted Claps And Whistles:
Tanikella: “Ivaala nijayiteega pani cheyyadamantene tyagam chesinattu anukuntunnaaru”
Rana with Gollapudi: “Meeku 70-80 yellu undochchu. Meeru gandhini taaki undochchu. Nehruni ee kallatho choosi undochchu. Mee anubhavam, chaduvu antaa avineetiki dhaaraposaaru. Postunaaru….meeru unte entha ..oodithey entha??”
Old Man with Rana: Aadapillaki nyaayam cheyyaleni CM unte entha oodithey entha?
Disappointments:
Priya Anand’s character seemed to be waste. The film would have run better without her character.DI problems were seen here and there those marred the clarity of picture on screen
Suhasini’s death and funeral scenes are very weak
Analysis:
It’s a sincere effort by the director to sketch the present political scenario in independent India. He has chosen the theme of corruption by politicians as main curse to system. Many films have come on corruption. And it’s a different version.
The film also delivers some idealistic ideas of smoking out black money from public to avoid making the state indebted to World Bank et al.
Everything is fine. But in this drama where there are many political technicalities are involved, there are chances that the director may lose mass audience, although he impresses the audiences those think.
The director has taken many cinematic liberties; those make audience look at each other’s face for finding lack of conviction. And some clearly evident mistakes:
When Chief Minister dies, only men come to visit his dead body. When Chief Minister’s wife dies, only women come to visit her funeral!! Howzzat??!! What’s that gender discrimination?
The son of CM walks on roads and no one identifies him in today’s world where media is so rampant. Can anyone imagine YS Jagan or Lokesh walking on roads and none identifying them? That’s not convincing. Director would have shown that the son of CM is going into masses in disguise.
Leader minus heroines’ track would have been the best product. Director would have told better things those go with the main theme in the minutes wasted for so-called romance track. With little care, the film would have become something in the standards of ‘Sarkar’!!
There are many moments in the film where the director touches the hearts of audiences and pulls tears from eyes.
First half of the film catches up pace since the beginning scene and gives a captivating feel by interval. Audiences found themselves meditatively pulled towards the screen. That’s the magic created by the director. And that magic leaves the audiences expecting something great in second half. The pace goes with ups and downs but something promising appears immediately after old man scene.
The scenes run faster from then and culminate into climax in idealistic tone. It’s a sincere effort by director with his understanding. Audiences connect to it connecting the movie to the present political conditions.
The film certainly pulls huge crowds due to the image procured by the director with his previous film ‘Happy Days’. The content in the movie appeals for B and C center audiences as well, if they connect that to present political conditions and watch. On a whole it’s a sincere and good product.

Varun Sandesh and Anita reprise the roles of Kamal Hassan and Sarita
He throws up his hands, guffaws and settles down for a chat when we tell him he was live on FM radio earlier in the day. He's the new Balu of Maro Charitra andAnita, the new Swapna. The posters of the film, unveiled with their character names ‘Balu and Swapna' aroused enough curiosity before the title was unveiled.
“A lot of people asked me if it was a sequel to Kotha Bangaru Lokam, since the characters in that film too had the same names,” he says.
Thirty-two years after Kamal Hassan and Sarita made Balu and Swapna memorable comes this remake or rather re-adaptation as the actors term it. “The story and the treatment are contemporary,” saysAnita.
Cultural barriers
Anita grew up in the US and while on a visit to Hyderabad, learnt about the film and auditioned for the role. The original Balu and Swapna battle language and caste differences while the new-age couple battle cultural barriers.
The film is set in the US with Varun playing a youngster who grew up in the US and Anita's family shifts base to the US from AP. “In the film, I am not fluent in English and Varun cannot speak Telugu,” says Anita .
“After I meet her, I start learning Telugu. She speaks to me in Telugu and I rush to my mother to get it translated. There are some funny moments,” pitches in Varun.
It helped that Varun, in reality, spent his childhood years in the US. “I could relate to Balu in the way he speaks, his mannerisms and how he cannot understand why such a big deal is being made when two people fall in love. It's a fresh perspective of Maro Charitra, something like what Anurag Kashyap did with Devdas in Dev D,” says Varun.
Negative traits
Aadarsh, who's acted in many films including Iqbaal and Happy Days, is the second hero. “As Swapna's bawa, my role has shades of grey. I have traits of two or three characters from the original. I give them (Balu and Swapna) enough trouble to make my presence felt,” says Aadarsh.
Varun had watched Maro Charitra many a time earlier and after signing this film, didn't feel pressurised on shouldering Kamal Hassan's role. “In the original, Kamal is a guy in his mid-20s, whereas here I am just over 20.”
A few trademark Maro Charitra sequences have been retained in their essence without being completely replicated, say the trio. The elevator song stands good, but after the initial moments, moves to the deserts of Dubai.
“It wouldn't be believable to show an elevator stuck for five minutes in the US today,” Varun reasons. How about the use of mouth organ and the famous coffee mixed with the ashes of Balu's photograph?
“If I tell you all that the producers will throw me out of here,” chuckles Varun. He reveals that the picturesque Vizag beach is replaced here with the Niagara falls.
The actors believe that the remake, produced by Dil Raju and directed by Ravi Yadav, will work. “There are many youngsters who haven't seen the old Maro Charitra,” says Aadarsh.
Allu Arjun's open challenge to Bollywood
As per Allu Arjun’s comments on his entry into Bollywood, many questions were targeted at this stylish star and he was clever at getting the finest answers. ‘Personally my opinion is that, iam proud of being a South Indian and I love South Indian movies.
also agree that Bollywood has a bigger reach than Tollywood but we four states that is Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala have a potential that is larger than Bollywood films.
Once, if we four industries combine together and work for a common movie, we can openly and easily challenge Bollywood and I strongly feel that the day is to come very soon,’ said Allu Arjun.
No doubt, Allu Arjun has occupied sufficient image in Tollywood, Kollywood and Malluwood…so, he can be the real initiator to start up the things in uniting the four industries, thus posing a big challenge to Bollywood.
Here are the exclusive pics of his speech on South Scope promotional event

Nayantara,Upendra film shooting to start from Tomorrow
It is confirmed that Nayantara will be playing the lead role. “Nayantara is not only a very good actress, but she has agreed to all three languages. The role in the film suits her perfectly,” says Upendra.
Upendra also feel that writing the script for a film is a tedious job. He says he took 18 months to write the script and design the new venture. He also took a break from acting, so that he can concentrate on writing.
The movie will be produced by Rockline Venkatesh. Upendra is back to directing after a long gap of eight years. His previous directorial ventures like Upendra, A and Om were huge hits.
I do not want to reveal anything about the film, but I can assure my fans that I have made every effort to meet raising expectations. The longstanding desire was certainly the main factor that influenced me to take up this responsibility.
I had to let go of some acting offers that came my way, but this is only a small sacrifice to satisfy my fans. Upendra has hired Johny Lal as the cameraman of the film. V. Manohar who provided music for Upendra’s first directorial venture ‘Tarle Nan Maga’ has been chosen to do the music direction of thefilm.

Kedi Movie Review, kedi review, kedi cinema reiview
Film: KEDI A regular tale, the story begins with Ramesh also known as Rummy (Nagarjuna) who has been friends with Janaki since childhood. In this process, Rummy develops love for Janaki but she tells him that if he becomes a big person in the society and is a rich person, she will be ready to marry him. Rummy takes this seriously and then he gets into gambling, in no time, he becomes a very wealthy person but then he nails only those people who became rich by wrong route and wins them in the gambling. This falls into the eyes of ACP Sekhar (Sayaji) who does his best to catch Rummy but is never successful. The story takes a turn when Rummy gets into a deal with Chandra (ankur) and at the same time, he also saves the life of Sara (Paula) whose sister Nadia (linda) falls in love with him. There is also Sandhya (Mamatha) who is Rummy's aide in all his activities. Where does all this lead to forms the rest of the story. The director has come up with a different theme and both the presentation and narrative have been okay. The dialogues were neat, the script was average but the screenplay was interesting. Background score was weak but two songs can be taken home for sure. Cinematography was top notch. Editing could have been better. Costumes were rich and the art department was quite creative. Nagarjuna has come up with a elegant performance and mysteriously, he is looking much younger than his earlier movie, Mamatha might be a disappointment for the glam lovers since her role doesn't have any oomph, it is more performance driven. Sayaji Shinde was regular, Brahmanandam was superb again, the real show belongs to Ankur and Rahul Dev who came up with a mean act, the others did their bit as required. The film is more of an entertainer and while the first half goes about with the regular elements of friendship, love and action, it is the second half that has got few serious moments and a predictable climax. The technical aspects of the film are high and the comedy track was also focused well. However, it is not an impact creating film and is more of a time pass. At the box office, it could be an above average grosser. The brand value of Nagarjuna and the presence of Mamta might get in good opening collections. source:bharatstudent |
